Course Overview

The course will allow lower secondary students to learn the fundamentals of using a computer, and provide them with the resources to continue learning more about computers in the future. The course will be based on the assumption that the students have no prior knowledge of computer, and will not get deeply into the details of any specific software or hardware. It will be up to the students to continue learning more about specific computer software that they might want to use.

This course will allow students to overcome any fear that they might have by giving them the opportunity to "play" with the computer starting with the hardware and continuing throughout the course .

Course Objectives

The main objective of this course is to familiarize the students with both basic computer hardware and software. At the end of the course, it is hoped that each student will be a computer literate person with a positive attitude towards the technology that is changing the world.

Course Format

We want students to have fun at the same time that they are learning on each 1˝ hour class. We will try to proceed at a relaxed pace and will take the time to respond to specific questions. There will be two segments for each class where the first segment (30 – 40 minutes) will be the theory part. Each segment of the course will be followed by a lab session (40 - 50 minutes) when students will put into practice what they have learned. If the students have "off-topic" questions, they can ask them in the final Question and Answer session (10 – 20 minutes).

Course Evaluation

At the beginning of each lesson, a short quiz will be given to evaluate the students’ understanding of the previous lessons. The answers will be discussed on the spot and from the answers given, hence we will know the students’ level of understanding.
